Research commences

I have started researching documentary codes and conventions, and have also began looking into documentaries that are based around stigmatised subjects such as rape and suicide. This is going to help me start to plan out what my sequence will entail and what kind of content I will include to make the potential audience intrigued, but not too upset/distressed with too much difficult content as it is such a sensitive topic.

Idea development

I have been analysing the channel 5 commissioning page and looking for a show that would fit into channel 5's schedule and be similar to the norm of what channel 5 usually screen on their channel. I saw a paragraph from Sean Doyle  who is the commissioning editor at channel 5 asking for a documentary show that is "brave" and one that "jumps out of the schedule" that will really grab peoples attention. This gave me the idea to create a documentary of a very stigmatised subject, suicide.  As I have struggled with mental health for the last few years I feel as if researching and creating something so meaningful will be very good to do, not just for my grade but for myself. Due to the fact that I will be so personally involved with the project It will feel more natural and less of a task to complete my project, which will be very helpful.

Action plan

Today I created my action plan begging from the 11th of June 2018 to when our summer holidays begin on the 19th of July 2018. I have only done a short term one due to the fact that I find I thrive when I plan closer to the time of doing something as I am more clear and concentrated over short time periods. This plan completes all of the tasks up to just before production, as we are expected to start filming sometime after the summer holidays. My plan consists of the planning stage of the coursework. Seen below is my action plan, and what I have done so far, and  what I am yet to do.

Initial response

When I first read the brief containing the task that we had been set by the exam board, I was excited to get the project underway. I am a very creative person and enjoy doing practical tasks in which my creativity is put into good use. My initial ideas included that of a world football non-fiction documentary. This is due to the fact that the world cup 2018 in Russia is approaching and one of the set commercial broadcasters (ITV) is always known for showing a vast amount of the games. This implies that it would be a fitting fit for their TV schedule during the world cup. As their viewers at the time will mainly be football fans. However, my mind is still open to many new ideas as I am in the early stages of planning and there are a vast amount of opportunities and paths that I could take

Introduction

Hello, I'm Fraser and welcome to my blog. I have set up this blog to log my progress and notable development points of the set media studies coursework that I have been tasked with. We have been asked to create an audio visual television program sequence that lasts from 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes long. Along with this I have been asked to create a front cover and double page spread feature article to publicise your television programme in a new lifestyle magazine. I will be logging my progress to the completion of this task in the following months.
