Aims and intentions

Fraser Cavan – Aims and intentions draft

In my production I will use a vast amount of different angles such as high and low shots. As well as this I will include various shot positioning such as medium shots and over the shoulder shots. I intend to use these as well as many sound effects in my production to keep it flowing and thus making it more interesting to the viewer. Using the same monotonous angles and shots will make my audio-visual video boring and uninteresting.
My production will infer a lot of reference to the representation of gender in our modern day society. For example in the script I have written the character ‘Larissa Brooks’ is at first glance a seemingly typical female receptionist who is controlled by boss and gym owner ‘Martin King’. However when first struck with a domestic demand that does not relate to her job, we see her respond in a sarcastic and powerful way in which she rejects her boss. Which challenges the idea that women in our society are a tool of domestic capabilities. I have kept the male stereotypes quite generic with the brawny character of Aidan Murphy, and the cheeky, charismatic character of ‘Martin King’.
My intended audience is the core age of 18-35, steering more to the male viewer. I will target this by putting my article in a magazine that I have created for the young male, ‘Men’s Custom’. This Magazine concept is one in which I plan to construct for the common male by including stories such as ‘Best watches for 2018’ and ‘best products for men’ on the front cover. These are topics that will draw my target audience into buying ‘Men’s Custom’ in which they will read my double page spread of my audio-visual, ‘Drunken Record’.
‘Drunken Record’ will be broadcast on ITV1 at 9pm on a weeknight. This is because it has some violent and potentially upsetting scenes targeting issues such as alcoholism and substance abuse. ITV always broadcast shows with mature themes after 9pm usually on weekdays. I have studied the codes and conventions of sports dramas to really get an idea of what common drama viewers can relate to. However I have added in some new, original concepts into my filming and editing to make my productions stand out. I have chosen to do this as I have researched Steve Neale’s repetition and difference theory and agree it is a theory that can be applied to make a production so much better.
In my production I intend to shoot in rough locations in which a sense of danger and apprehension can clearly be felt by the viewer. In my double page article spread I am going to make the fonts quite rough and sketchy while also using a restricted colour palette. This will blend with the tense and intimidating atmosphere that my audio-visual will set on my viewers. As well as this I intend to make the character Aidan Murphy the forefront of my magazines front cover and the ‘actor’ of the character, Luke Hague’s interview being the main focus point of the double page spread. This will all equate to the readers and viewers of my cross-media production knowing that the character Aidan Murphy is the most important and notable character in my production.

Seven - Textual analysis

I watched an 8 minute clip from the film multiple times and analysed different aspects of the construction of the scenes such as the mise-en-scene, the lighting, the camera, and most importantly for this particular film, the characters. This is because the characters in this scene are very similar to the characters I would like to construct in my coursework At this point in the movie, in the beginning of act three, after the previous story twists, our expectations of what is to come are already well set up. But here John Doe is very confident and repeatedly emphasizes the impact of his coming act. This raises even more the audience expectation and triggers an almost unbearable curiosity for the climax.
